It all started with Emily–sweet little red-haired Emily. She came to school with her “twin” after Christmas, and she ended up in an empty seat after recess. The kids joked that she was a new student. Then, everyone got back to work, and everyone forgot she was there. Now I have two Kierstens and a Taylor in my class too. Emily didn’t make an appearance today, but I snapped a photo of three of my other “students”. We have a few extra seats in class, so these beauties have been soaking up the knowledge on almost a daily basis. They come to school with their owners, sit in chairs, and seriously nobody even notices that they are there. The kids don’t play with them. The boys don’t mess with them. Nobody talks about them, and I hardly even notice them. I only happened to notice them today because of the note that was written on the spare desk in front of them, so I couldn’t resist taking a photograph to share with you all! Yes, this is totally weird. I realize this. Would other teachers have an issue with this? Maybe…but I don’t. They seriously don’t interfere with learning at all, and they aren’t a distraction! So, I’m embracing this totally quirky part of our classroom community with a smile… 🙂
UPDATE: Emily came back to school today. Haha! She’s looking a little frazzled! It’s no wonder she took a day off from school…

So funny! I might have a new use for the American Girl dolls sitting on their bed in my room. My teenagers, who loved them more than life, have completely disowned them!

This happened in my room last year. I gave our new learner the same worksheet/activity the rest of the class was doing and propped a color in her hand. Since she didn't finish before recess she had to stay in. When the kids came back in, her work was finished and she was reading at her desk. The students loved it!
I love those quirky little things that make each classroom unique. I totally wouldn't have a problem with the dolls attending class as long as they weren't a distraction.
