If you’re looking for a really simple way to foster creativity and work on poetry, I have a fun idea for you: poetry plates! Simply have your students create an image by filling in the space without cutting or adding anything to it. Then, have them write a poem on the back of the plate, and voila! A fun display to hang from a string in your classroom…and it’s meaningful, adorable, and low prep! It doesn’t get any better than that! Here’s a small sampling of how they turned out:
I love how vibrant and detailed the plates were! Next time, I think I’ll instruct my students to use black markers on the back so their poems will stand out more, but this lesson served its purpose nevertheless. The kids LOVED this activity, and so did I. It was so engaging! It’s definitely going to be utilized again in the future. Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest! I hope your kiddos enjoy this as much as mine did. Happy Teaching, friends!
